Today is Chaitra Sankranti, a day for traditional recipes using seasonal summer vegetables. What better than Ashis’s grandmother’s recipe for drumsticks in mustard paste. He very kindly shared the recipe, and wrote to me saying, “She adored me like hell. Actually my mom didn’t know anything when she got married. So all the food she’s learnt is from my paternal grandmother.” Ashis’s wise take on running a frugal kitchen is to go really cheap with the ingredients and ones which are easily available.

Before we go into the recipe, I have to say that Ashis is someone whose knowledge about food I look up to. He is an absolute encyclopaedia when it comes to beer. He is next to none in that. But he is also a warm, down to earth person who has an amazing ability to put one at ease. It is impossible not to like him.
